In the December issue of PCD&F, we will publish results of a survey of more than 450 designers on how they use and think about various CAD tools. (Thanks to Bill Brooks for the idea!)
This week we will spill a few of the beans (the full report will be published when the magazine hits next week).
-451 designers completed the survey
-86.2% consider themselves to be “experienced,” 11.3% “intermediate” and 2.4% “novices.”
-32.9% say their company has more than 1,000 employees, 8.2% 500 to 999 employees, 16.2% 100 to 499, 20.9% 10 to 99, the rest 9 and under.
-Cadence, Mentor Graphics and Altium users were most highly represented in the results
- Primary tool vendors most often charge six to 10% of the tool price for charge for support and maintenance,
- Design resuse, constraints and autorouting accuracy are very important; autorouting speed, not so much. Liking the UI is critical.
More later this week!
