Lunch 'n Learn meeting of the Orange County chapter of the IPC Designers Council
Date: Thursday, January 17th, 2013
Time: 11:30 am - 1:30 pm
Where: Avnet, Inc. 430 Exchange #100 Irvine, CA 92602
Topic: PCB Design for low voltage/high current DC-DC Switching Regulators
What a designer needs to know in order to improve the power supplies in your design
Presentation by: Ed Osburn Director – U.S. Solutions Engineering Centers ON Semiconductor
Today’s electronic devices typically require multiple DC-DC regulators to power a variety of IC’s all with different Voltage and Current requirements. Additionally, new semiconductor processes drive lower voltages and with higher transistor counts. These increased transistor counts tend to drive higher current draw on the power rails. Ed Osburn’s presentation will provide a basic background on DC-DC operation, highlight key issues with components, and guidance on PCB component placement, stackup and routing of nets related to the DC-DC converter and system signals nearby.
You will gain an improved understanding of design operation and key issues that will translate to improved PCB design that can yield improved DC-DC electrical performance, reduced thermals, and a more robust power supply. The improvements in the DC-DC layout can yield overall improvements in system operation thru improved voltage margin, reduced power rail noise, and lower noise coupling into system I/O. The result will translate to a more reliable and higher performance product.
Reserve a spot on your calendar on Thursday, January 17th, 2013 from 11:30am to 1:30pm for this educational “Lunch ‘n Learn” meeting event.
